Tajikistan Privatization and Private Sector Development

Client: The World Bank

Under this project, CARANA focused on three major activities:

  • Assistance to the State Property Committee of the Government of Tajikistan in privatization of the remaining medium and large state-owned enterprises, including policy and legal advice on the incorporation and privatization processes
  • Working with the Central Share Registry on a variety of organizational, legal, and policy issues and providing on-the-job and formal training to the Registry staff in incorporation and share auction processes
  • Assistance with private sector development.

CARANA conducted analyses of the main constraints to private sector growth and recommended to the Government of Tajikistan ways to remove these barriers. In addition, CARANA assisted with the establishment and operation of three Private Sector Advisory Groups (PSAGs). The PSAGs were set up to participate in the identification of operating constraints and assist in advocating for change to local and republican level government.
