How to Use Your E-mail Account at carana.com
This document provides an overview of the e-mail services provided by CARANA
Corporation.
Web Access to carana.com Accounts
- Connect to the Internet and start your browser.
- Go to the URL: http://www.carana.com/mail.
- Enter your username and password, and press Logon button. Your
username is the portion of your e-mail address before the @ sign
(e.g., the username for user1@carana.com account will
be user1).
- After successful logon, click on the Mailboxes link in the menu
at the top of the screen. Select INBOX to read incoming messages.
- To send a message, reply from INBOX, or select Compose link
in the menu. Please note that your webmail session will time out
after 30 minutes of inactivity, so you may want to type long messages in
a word processor, then copy and paste the text in your e-mail message.
- Deleted messages are marked as deleted, but stay in the mailbox
until you Purge them.
- You can change your password and other account settings on the
Settings page. After you change the account password on the server,
make sure to change the password accordingly in your e-mail software (MS
Outlook Express, MS Outlook, Netscape Communicator, etc.)
- You can set up forwarding of incoming messages to another e-mail
address or addresses. To do that, go to the Rules page, enter the
forwarding e-mail address in the forwarding field, and check the forwarding
checkbox. You can choose to keep a copy of each forwarded message
in your carana.com INBOX - check the appropriate checkbox for that.
- You can set up a vacation message for your account. When enabled,
this message will be sent automatically in reply to any incoming message.
Enter your vacation message on the Rules page, and check the checkbox
to enable it.
- After using the Webmail, press Logout button, or just close your
browser window.
MS Outlook Express Account Setup for carana.com Domain
The following instructions allow you to set up Microsoft Outlook Express
to use your carana.com account. The setup is similar for most other
e-mail applications.
- Start Outlook Express.
- From the Tools menu, choose Account
- Select the Mail tab.
- Click the Add button.
- From the Add menu, click Mail.
- In the text box labeled Display Name, type your name and click
Next.
- In the Email Address box, type your e-mail address (e.g., user1@carana.com).
Click Next.
- Select POP3 to answer the question "My incoming mail server is
a..."
- In the Incoming (POP3 or IMAP) box, type "mail.carana.com"
(without quotes).
- In the Outgoing (SMTP) box, also type "mail.carana.com"
(without quotes).
- Click Next.
- In the Account Name box, type your user name (the portion of your
e-mail address before the @ sign.)
- In the Password box, type your password.
- If you want Outlook Express to remember your password, then check the
appropriate box.
- Do not check the "Log on using secure password" box.
- Click Next.
- Click Finish.
The above sets the basic account properties. You should also enable SMTP
Authentication feature in order to be able to send messages.
- Go back to Tools menu, choose "Account".
- Select the Mail tab.
- Double click on the account you have just created (mail.carana.com).
The account properties dialog will open.
- Select "Servers" tab.
- Check "My server requires authentication" check box.
- Click OK buttons to close all dialog windows.
Press Send/Receive button in the toolbar to make sure the account
is set up properly.
In order to check your e-mail through the web interface, change the account's
password, or set up forwarding to a different e-mail address, see the previous
section.
