High-potential industries in the West Bank

Which industries are good investments for Palestine?

That question drew more than 150 Palestinian business leaders, industry association members, and government representatives to the Industry and Economic Growth Forum in Jericho in early May, hosted by USAID's Enterprise Development and Investment Promotion project. In its role as project manager, CARANA conducted advance market research, zeroing in on three industries with the ability to generate multiple jobs for Palestine’s growing workforce: tourism, ICT and stone and marble working.

Attendees discussed ways to develop these: improving hotel facilities and inviting tour guides to visit the territory’s many religious and cultural landmarks; focusing on carved stone and marble products that require more labor and yield more value; and developing ICT capacity within every industry, including high-speed internet and e-commerce to build a more computer-savvy business environment.

Discussions were guided by CARANA President Eduardo Tugendhat, EDIP Chief of Party Alan Pieper, the Palestinian Information Technology Association (PITA), and the Palestinian Federation of Industries (PFI).
