Peru Cacao Alliance named Personality of the Year

In May 2015, the Peru Cocoa Alliance (PCA) was awarded the distinction of Personality of the Year in the category of International Cooperation for Regional Development in recognition of its work transforming the cocoa industry and small farmers’ livelihoods alike in the San Martín region of Peru. PCA is a cooperative agreement between USAID/Peru, CARANA Corporation, and DEVIDA, which is creating a sustainable alternative source of income in former coca growing areas of Peru through the production of high value fine flavor cocoa and a diversified agro-forestry model.

Since 1984, marketing leaders Comunicación Estratégica Integral and Dialog Comunicaciones in Peru’s San Martín region have recognized the greatest development influencers with the Personalities of the Year awards. The event’s purpose is to highlight and continue to promote the growth the San Martín region has seen in recent years. It complements the region’s goal to become Peru’s leader in renewable natural resource management as well as the main business partner with neighboring country Brazil by 2015.

The award was presented to PCA National Director José Iturrios and San Martín Regional Director Ana María Andrade by Dr. Alberto Azáldegui Cruz, Director at Comunicación Estratégica Integral and Dean at the San Martín School of Journalism.
