USAID officials visit Peru Cocoa Alliance production plot

On January 22, USAID Acting Assistant Administrator Beth Hogan, DCM Lawrence Gumbiner, Regional Representative Ted Gehr, and Alternative Development Office Director Rory Donohoe visited one of the Peru Cocoa Alliance (PCA)’s plots in San Martín de Majoral, in the region of Ucayali to assess the program’s achievements to date growing fine flavor cocoa. The plot belongs to cocoa producer and PCA partner Oscar Isuiza, who led the USAID delegation on a tour of the plot, demonstrating the stages of the production process. Oscar gave his testimony as a former coca producer who has improved the quality of his life thanks to USAID support in the production of cocoa, allowing him to leave behind the illicit drug production. Other producers present also shared their testimony with the USAID delegation.
