Home furnishings companies from Botswana, Ghana and Senegal joined more than 500 exhibitors at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair in New York, May 16-19. The cutting-edge industry show draws 23,500 interior designers, architects, retailers, designers, manufacturers, representatives, distributors and developers. Yenok Wood Products and Galerie Arte Dakar, assisted on the ground by USAID's West Africa Trade Hub, displayed cabinets, chests, occasional pieces and talked to numerous potential buyers. Nearby, Mabeo Furniture (booth pictured above) drew the attention of Metropolis Mag, which announced, "Peter Mabeo is back at ICFF with more furnishings beautifully made by craftswomen in Gaborone, Botswana." Mabeo began receiving assistance three years ago from USAID's Southern Africa Global Competitiveness Hub which helped him craft an export-oriented business plan and supported annual appearances at the ICFF. CARANA manages both African Trade Hubs and gave on-the-ground logistical support to the exhibitors. Published May 2009
